Stan Bitters Tile

Designer Heath Ceramics

Made in collaboration with California ceramic artist Stan Bitters,
these tactile, deeply textured pieces bring out the earthy character
of clay.
The word “monumental” is often used to describe Stan Bitters’
ceramic sculptures. But even at a small scale, this legendary
American artist’s expression has a rare boldness. The Stan Bitters
tile line represents the kind of collaboration we love—an opportunity
to bring a sculptor’s work to life in a format that fits the home.
Bitters’ tactile, dimensional approach is truly one-of-a-kind, and our
expanded glaze palette adds new shades to our earthy originals.

About The Designer

Stan Bitters’ influence on California arts and crafts dates back to

the 1960s, when he established himself as a Modernist sculptor

who followed the lead of his material, letting the organic nature of

clay show up strongly in the finished work. Bitters’s ceramic murals,

fountains, and sculptures can be found throughout California and

beyond, in numerous public spaces and private residences. “I want

as many times as I can to retain that look and attitude of clay and

what it is.”
