Tidal Chair

Brand Tait
Designer Trent Jansen

The Tidal Chair – an elegant outdoor dining chair – embodies Australia’s infamous coastline with its flowing curves and lapping lines. Tidal marks ripple up the seat base breaking into lush, rolling curves. Straight edges and tight radii give a nod to decades past.

Inspired by Australia’s surf culture, Trent Jansen applied science to his design by researching wave formations and linear diagrams. Studying the energy and pull of spiralling water spouts as part of the creative process behind Tidal Dining Chair – an ultramodern outdoor dining chair – Jansen’s design intelligence is further evidenced in material selection, form and function.

Sturdy stainless-steel wire is expertly crafted into the gently undulating frames of the collection pieces. Tidal is a masterful intersection of raw material and a dynamic yet lithe aesthetic. Tidal is composed of Dining, Lounging and Occasional Tables providing a comprehensive series of options.

Porcelain glass tabletop and bespoke exterior grade upholstered cushioning for seating and lounging promise enduring outdoor comfort.

About The Designer

Trent Jansen grew up in Kiama, a small town on the south east coast of Australia. Following a period of study at the Industrial Design School of the University of Alberta in Canada, Trent graduated from the College of Fine Arts at the University of New South Wales with a Bachelor of Design.

In late 2004, Trent opened his own studio in Sydney where he continues to create honest and poetic sustainable design, developing pieces that aim to foster a lasting relationship with the user. Instead of a disposable object, the work becomes a lifelong companion. Accolades include the Melbourne Design 2016 Award for Best Product Design (Home & Garden), London Design Museum’s Designs of the Year Award and Idea’s Emerging Designer Award.

About the Distributor

Established in 1992 by husband and wife, Gordon and Susan Tait, Tait began in a small factory in Melbourne, Australia. Gordon, a sheet metal craftsman, and Susan, a creative textile designer, noticed an absence for well-designed, well-made outdoor products – both reflective of Australia’s enviable outdoor lifestyle and built to withstand the harsh Australian elements.

Product Warranty

All Tait pieces are made locally and come with a 5-year warranty.
