113 George Street West
Perched above Burleigh Heads on Queensland’s Gold Coast, this tri-level residence by Kelia is a study in restraint and elevation, its form responding directly to the steep contours of the site. Rather than fighting the slope, the design works with it, stepping the home through three distinct levels that each offer a shifting vantage point over the surrounding treetops and coastline beyond.
Constructed by DB Build, the execution carries the same considered hand as the design itself, with a level of craftsmanship that allows the architecture’s quieter gestures, the way light moves through the home, the framing of a view and the transition between levels to hold their own presence. There’s a sense of discovery built into the plan, with each floor revealing something new about the site’s outlook and orientation.
Newly completed, the home feels both settled into its hillside position and entirely of its moment, a considered response to a site that few homes on the street can claim. It’s a residence that rewards a slow read, its layered relationship to the landscape unfolding gradually rather than all at once.
