128 Bastings Street
Located in one of Northcote’s most established residential pockets, this home by Taouk Architects explores the relationship between bold architectural form and liveable space.
From the outset, the design is driven by a desire to create depth within a constrained urban footprint, resulting in a series of layered volumes that unfold progressively from front to rear.
Internally, Taouk Architects has prioritised spatial variation and natural light. Double-height voids, skylights and carefully framed openings introduce moments of verticality while drawing daylight deep into the plan. Living areas are arranged to encourage connection, flowing outward to private outdoor zones that extend the footprint and soften the transition between interior and exterior.
Material selection plays a defining role. A restrained yet tactile palette anchors the home, where robust finishes are balanced by warmer elements to create a sense of cohesion and comfort. This approach allows the architecture to feel both enduring and responsive to daily use.
Through a measured yet expressive design language, Taouk Architects has delivered a residence that reinterprets the suburban home, offering a considered response to density, light and contemporary living in Melbourne’s inner north.
