13 Theodore Court
Set in one of Wānaka’s most tightly held neighbourhoods, this home by Nicholas Tang is conceived as a bold architectural response to its alpine surroundings.
From the outset, the residence establishes a strong presence through its refined dark facade and disciplined linear form, creating a sense of clarity that carries through every aspect of the design.
Tang approached the interior as a sequence of carefully resolved volumes shaped by light, outlook and movement. A sculptural timber-and-glass staircase anchors the arrival experience, leading into expansive living spaces framed by floor-to-ceiling glazing. These openings draw the surrounding landscape into the home, capturing elevated mountain views while allowing natural light to shift across the interior throughout the day.
Materiality is both robust and refined. Schist, timber and tactile finishes introduce warmth and depth while maintaining a restrained architectural language. Open-plan living areas flow seamlessly toward outdoor spaces, reinforcing a strong connection between interior life and the surrounding environment.
Through this measured balance of form, material and landscape, Nicholas Tang has delivered a residence that feels distinctly grounded in its locale, a contemporary home defined by precision, openness and an enduring sense of place.
