24 Pearson Street
Built in 1868 and faithful to its Gothic origins in every pointed arch and antique chandelier, 24 Pearson Street has been restored with considered restraint.
What has been delivered here is an all-encompassing renovation that honours the original with western red cedar, bespoke carved fireplaces and tessellated courtyard detailing, while introducing a contemporary waterfront wing with soaring double-height ceilings and full-length Keller Minimal Windows imported from Luxembourg.
Vaughan Architects has created two halves that operate in productive tension: heritage and present, formal and open, intimate and expansive. A glass-framed whiskey room, a chef’s kitchen anchored in full-slab bookmark marble with Sub-Zero Wolf appliances, and a wine cellar are among the highlights. Seven bedrooms – including self-contained au pair quarters with water views – speak to a home built for scale without sacrifice.
Hedge-lined gardens, sunlit lawns, a terrace and heated pool complete a setting that is Balmain East at its most singular.
