64 Surf Parade
Walkway House by Archier is a considered exploration of how architecture can inhabit, rather than occupy, a landscape. Positioned within a densely vegetated coastal site, the home is enveloped by native climbers and designed to dissolve into its surroundings over time. Central to the project is a galvanised steel walkway that wraps the upper level, forming an external circulation path that connects bedrooms while encouraging movement through and engagement with the landscape.
This elevated promenade establishes a layered spatial experience, linking to a fern garden below via a spiral stair and enclosing a central courtyard anchored by a curved concrete chimney. Internally, volumes shift between expansive and intimate, with a double-height void drawing the eye upward into the canopy, contrasted by more grounded living areas designed for retreat. Extensive glazing further reinforces this relationship, opening the home to its environment on all sides.
Through a balance of robust materials and responsive planning, Walkway House reflects Archier’s commitment to clarity and connection, where architecture is shaped by movement, landscape and the evolving life of the home.
