In Cape Tribulation, set between the Daintree Rainforest and the Great Barrier Reef, Alkira Resort House is a sculptural expression of architecture in dialogue with its environment. Designed by Charles Wright Architects, the home floats above a waterlily-covered lake, its six cantilevered wings extending from a central swimming pool in a formation that is both dramatic and deeply functional. Responding to the climate and remoteness of Far North Queensland, Alkira operates entirely off-grid and is built to endure the elements without compromising comfort. Each of the six bedroom suites offers a private sanctuary, with marble ensuite and balcony, complemented by a commercial kitchen, 2,400-bottle wine cellar, executive office and gymnasium. A separate residence, Mango House, accommodates a manager, and has its own driveway and entrance. Accessible by road, sea or air, Alkira is more than a home – it is an architectural legacy embedded within one of the world’s most extraordinary landscapes.
