Light spills in through the soaring windows of Kahibah Kitchen, and birdsong filters from the mature trees of the surrounding gardens. “You will always hear birds anytime of the day,” says Nathan Condon, director of Pinnacle Joinery. Situated near the lush bushland of Glenrock State Reserve, the home’s relationship to the natural environment was key to the client’s brief for a seamless and functional kitchen that connected indoors and out.

Condon aimed for the kitchen to echo the ease and comfort of Kahibah Cottage. “The design and layout of the kitchen is to create an effortless and easy lifestyle,” he says. “It’s a very long elongated L-shape. We have all integrated appliances, a seamless benchtop area, which all flow with the splashback window, which bring indoors and outdoors together.”

A sensitivity to light and nature is brought out in the material palette – oak flooring, warm timber veneer and Taj Mahal stone – with each element complementing the landscape beyond. An exceptional level of precision in installation allows the darker-toned joinery to be read as a continuous and refined whole.

“The reason we use Blum products, it’s the longevity we get out of them. Installation is as seamless as it can be.”

Crucially, the kitchen also responds to the realities of downsizing. “We eliminated the need for a laundry room. The laundry was essentially an extension of the kitchen itself,” Condon says. The laundry is now completely concealed behind beautifully crafted joinery, with the Blum REVEGO pocket door systems essential to both the functionality and craftsmanship. When closed, these doors maintain the kitchen’s calm, cohesive presence; when open, they reveal the coffee station and a combined laundry and drinks area.

Internally, Blum LEGRABOX drawers also play a key role. “We’ve paired that with black LEGRABOX drawers that maximises the internal width… we essentially do have two drawers in there concealed by the one drawer front,” he notes. That precision extends to the broader execution of the kitchen joinery. “The doors overlay the front edge of the bench top… which created a seamless look to the back window.”

For Condon, Blum products were integral to the success of the project. “The reason we use Blum products, it’s the longevity we get out of them. Installation is as seamless as it can be.” He takes great pride in the client’s enjoyment of the space. “It’s just a great place to be involved,” he reflects. “You sit back with a bit of a smile and think, ‘Yeah, I helped create this environment.’”
