A Sensory Immersion – Brighton Residence by Golden
Brighton Residence embodies an ethos of bold confidence while also offering its custodians a private and reclusive enclave. Golden, together with Seidler Group, combine daring and gallant gestures with refined details and considered restraint to propose a home of sensory immersion.
Located in Brighton, the same-named residence epitomises a luxurious engagement between architecture and its people. Combining both bold and intimate gestures throughout, the home is intended as both the ideal stage to entertain while also being private and reclusive as a family home. Complementing the architecture by Seidler Group, Golden’s interiors conjure a home appropriate for its intention, as both an object of confident display and one of retreat. Combining both highly detailed and refined elements throughout, every interaction with the home has been considered, with particular attention given to the resulting sensory experience. While calming and meditative, the home is also one of heroic expression, capturing the true spirit of contrast.

Build by Belot Property, Brighton Residence is the response to a highly articulated brief, where both large-and-small-scale elements are all given the same detail and rigour in design and execution. Combining both an angular and rounded approach, the formality and resulting geometries employed respond to both the site and the intended movement through each of the spaces and volumes. Externally and internally, warm and inviting materials encourage interaction and are intended to age and patina over time, offering a balance to the softer and more muted elements. Upon entry, a large pivot door sets the stage for what is to come, where a large structural column is wrapped in gold leaf as a gesture that celebrates the architectural elements instead of concealing them – which becomes a common thread, reinforced throughout.
The materiality is a continuation of the form and its play with contrasts, where robust and low maintenance elements meet with the softer and more tactile qualities. Responding to the coastal location, the use of exposed concrete offers a nod to the Brutalist style, while the use of French oak flooring, refined metal and brickwork offer familiar motions of the more traditional residential. At the centre of the home, the kitchen and its deliberately oversized island becomes a drawcard for interactions, and its close proximity to the highly detailed bar becomes an expression of the home as an entertainment space also. Offering an ease of transition between inside and out, large full-height glazed doors open the façade and encourage movement, embracing the coastal locale and outdoor lifestyle. Offering true connection between the natural and the built is the inbuilt pool and its large glass viewing panel from the lower level, extending the connection to the subterranean level.
Brighton Residence is a refined and warmly generous home, while also being unabashedly gregarious and proud. Golden has created a reassuring balance between tactility, tonality and privacy, and the result is both confident and assured.
