Hermon by WOWOWA is a celebration of its traditional features and contemporary renovations. Inspired by the colours of Australia, WOWOWA has employed decorative surfaces by Laminex to imbue the family home with vibrancy and a rich connection to its surrounds.

Set on a tree-lined street among homes of a similar style, Hermon is a traditional Edwardian-era home that has been renovated by WOWOWA to incorporate the modern needs of its owners. Stitching together heritage details and contemporary changes, the architect introduced new materials, a vibrant colour palette and modern elements to rejuvenate the family home. With a love for blending eras, WOWOWA used the original stone, bricks and gradient of the roof tiles for inspiration in the structure’s contemporary updates.

Beginning at the front gate, a soft pebble driveway leads around manicured gardens and up to the traditional façade. After passing through the home’s threshold, WOWOWA’s contemporary renovations are revealed in the kitchen – the heart of the residence. Aspiring to speak to the colour of the landscape, the architect has worked with Laminex for the kitchen’s decorative surfaces, employing the bayleaf colour to partner with the reds, browns and warm terracotta throughout the home. Additionally, WOWOWA has also installed wide windows and doors, offering sightlines out to the vibrant gardens. The exterior architecture of Hermon is complemented by planter boxes upon the second level and new rear gardens help to create a storybook atmosphere.

Establishing a cohesiveness, the same bayleaf colour is carried across the kitchen and main bedroom. Keeping the whimsical and ornate design of Hermon’s original interior, the upstairs area introduces private and functional spaces. The upper level holds the main bedroom with walk-in robe and ensuite, two children’s rooms and a guest room. Embracing circles, geometry and patterns throughout, WOWOWA has implemented terrazzo, finger tiles, terracotta, steel and timber as modern elements that work alongside the traditional aspects.

Honouring the original Edwardian-era home, WOWOWA has renovated Hermon with careful consideration. Adding renewed joy and nostalgia, WOWOWA has meticulously chosen each material and colour to rejuvenate the home for modern living.
