Merging the luxury experience and amenities of a five-star hotel with the warmth and comfort of a residence, Home Docklands in Melbourne redefines apartment living.
Located on the fringe of Melbourne’s CBD, adjacent to Marvel Stadium, Home Docklands is a striking modern building featuring 676 apartments along with a host of communal spaces, from a 25-metre pool and co-working space to an infra-red sauna and podcast studio. “It is somewhere between a five-star hotel and a traditional apartment building, the difference being that there is a large service aspect which really relates to a hotel-type lifestyle,” says Peter Panetta, national design director for Home.
Furnishing 84 of the apartments, GlobeWest took inspiration from Home’s long-term collaborator and stylist Ruth Welsby – who designed many of the spaces – injecting playful colours and a luxurious sensibility. “We got a fantastic brief from Home that included the resident profile, the floor plans and the colour palette,” explains Jessica Rocke, head of national sales at GlobeWest. “That really helped us and gave us the inspiration for the apartment furniture.” The Australian company’s contribution was invaluable, says Panetta: “They allowed us to provide a more residential response to a building of this scale.”
GlobeWest’s Melbourne design team overlaid the furniture onto the plans “which enabled us to see if there were any products that weren’t going to fit from a scale point of view,” says Rocke. “We did actually substitute some of the furniture to ensure that all of the products we delivered fit perfectly into each of the apartments.” Customisation has become a key offering at GlobeWest “and the Home project was a great opportunity to do this across upholstery, entertaining units and dining tables.”
Along with the impeccably fitted-out apartments, Home Docklands features a host of communal spaces, “each with their own function,” says Panetta. “We’ve got work hubs, lounge areas and wellness spaces and each one requires a different design response. GlobeWest’s extensive range of furnishings really helped to deliver and strengthen the function of each space.”
“It’s a beautiful, architecturally designed building and we’re really proud to be part of such a project,” says Rocke. “It’s fantastic to see our products in all of the communal spaces and to see GlobeWest and other Australian brands working so beautifully together.” For Panetta, and the team at Home, the collaboration has achieved an outstanding result. “There are so many people involved in this project, all strengthening our vision to get an outcome that really exceeded our expectations,” he says.
