Momo Handles Showroom by Lane & Grove
Momo Handles’ new flagship showroom in Paddington, Sydney, by Lane & Grove is an intimate and tactile space with a warm residential ambience.
The work of Lane & Grove, Momo Handles’ new showroom – on Oxford Street in Paddington – seamlessly blends into its luxurious, inner-city locale. The space has a distinct residential feeling and is designed to be both tactile and interactive. “The brief was to create a number of different spaces – we needed to provide a work area for staff, an interactive zone for clients to hold and touch products, and a semi-private meeting area,” explains Deb Quigley, co-director at Lane & Grove. The design team opted for neutral finishes, which provide a subtle, non-intrusive backdrop.
As Momo Handles’ first ever showroom, it was essential that the space was not only welcoming but showed off the company’s ranges to full advantage, including its new architectural door hardware collection. “When a customer comes and feels the quality and weight of our product, they’re more inclined to use it in their home, [which was why we] decided to create a space to showcase our product,” says Marc Bennett, Momo Handles’ marketing director. “We’re really excited to showcase the lovely finishes that our products have.”
The showroom is intelligently designed to make the most of the compact floorplan. “As you walk through the front door, an island bench leads you through the space and back around,” explains Bennett. “On the left-hand wall are all our designer ranges and a collection of contemporary handles, while on the opposite wall is our Momo premium collection.” This is broken up into the range’s five unique finishes: matte black, bronze, dark brushed brass, brushed satin brass and dull brushed nickel.
The interior design focuses on warm materials, a counterpoint to the metal and boosting the at-home feel. “The warmth of the sisal carpet and the beautiful Olive Grove green on the walls, paired with travertine and render and stucco, is in direct contrast with the cold, heavy nature of the hardware,” says Quigley. “The space is not only beautiful, it’s also very functional.” Lighting is used thoughtfully throughout. “We added copper spotlights over the island bench and each range on the wall has a backlit light … while a pendant over the dining area links back to us making it a comfortable home environment,” says Margot Lane, co-director at Lane & Grove.
The space represents an exciting step for the brand. “We see the Momo Handles showroom as an integral part of the Paddington community … we respect our customers and their time, so when they leave here, they are not only informed but may have found something they want to use in their project,” says Bennett.
