Emerging from the landscape as if it has always been embedded in it, Peconic House by Mapos Studio has been crafted for a family of five. Offering everything the residents could need and more, the home is further complemented by unparalleled views of Hampton Bays.

Located on a narrow stretch of land, Peconic House has been designed to oppose the idea of a typical Hamptons mansion. Emphasising red cedar due to the clients’ love for the material, Mapos Studio employs it across both interior and exterior elements. Inside, the red cedar has been used for the cabinetry as well as some walls and floorboards. The material also provides a unique aroma that further adds to the home’s character. On the exterior, the red cedar further enriches the façade’s charm as, due to the salt air, humidity and seasons, the wood will beautifully weather over time.

Located on a narrow stretch of land, Peconic House has been designed to oppose the idea of a typical Hamptons mansion.

Sprawling 3,800 square metres, Peconic House has been broken up into smaller rooms to encourage more intimate family gatherings and connections. An example of this is the living space, which is sunken behind a shelf. Separated by a two-sided fireplace, the room dedicates one side to a music room for the family’s band and the other side is used as a television room. To the right of this space is the dining room and kitchen, which is the heart of the home. Designed to be open and welcoming, the kitchen and dining room allow the family to come together regularly.

The master suite is placed on the top floor and takes advantage of expansive views of the bay and the home’s rear yards. Additionally, throughout the master, Mapos Studio has created memorable moments such as the nautical window in the shower and the triangular bay window near the bed, which faces north. Located downstairs are a further four bedrooms and a bunk room, all of which surround a main play area. From here, the home opens up to the outside deck area and a long pool, which is designed to allow the owners to swim laps while the children play freely. Moreover, the residence has been finished with a green roof and an existing large sycamore tree partly hangs over the house.

On the exterior, the red cedar further enriches the façade’s charm as, due to the salt air, humidity and seasons, the wood will beautifully weather over time.

Peconic House encourages connection across its interior and exterior areas. Aiming to break the mould of the typical mansions of the area, Mapos Studio has created a home that feels attuned to its natural surrounds.
