Completing architecture, planning, development, project management and interior design, Maya Sternberg and Nina Maya Interiors have crafted Residence F, an elegant home worthy of its elevated location.

Located in one of Sydney’s leafy residential suburbs, Residence F is afforded breathtaking views of the harbour bridge, Sydney CBD and across the water to Manly. With a private driveway that offers seclusion and privacy, Residence F slowly reveals itself on approach. Through the pivot front door, the home’s unique character, decor and interior design is uncovered. Positioned in the centre of the entrance room is a custom-built staircase – its meticulous curve design, LED steps and skylight above frame it as an art piece and sets the tone for what’s to come.

Though staying true to the client’s original brief, which was to create a world-class home fitting of the location, Naya Maya Interiors took risks across the interior and exterior design. Serving as the third property the team and clients have worked on together – past homes include a coastal home and a country house – Residence F was to be a showcase house for entertaining guests, spending time with family and friends and admiring the city skyline.

Surrounded by heritage trees, the house has a monolithic feeling and is able to hold its own amid the landscape. The entire exterior of the home is clad in Italian travertine, which gives the home a sense of gravitas, purpose and history. Considering connections to the surrounds at every chance, Nina Maya Interiors has added various pockets to appreciate the environment. One such place is a unique glass conservatory on the ground level. The home also offers several organic-shaped skylights, one of which is positioned in line with the staircase and offers views of the treetops, while sliding glass doors emphasise seamless indoor-outdoor living.

On the ground level, a custom kitchen is a hub of activity and sets the design language of the home. For the kitchen bench, Nina Maya Interiors has selected an Italian stone with colour variations. The finished island is also completed with a sinuous curve and complemented with bespoke, light finishes that are positioned above the bench and on the walls.

Continuing to push the boundaries with each project – and Residence F is no exception – the team created a custom glass brick for the home’s exterior, which invites a unique quality of light into the interior. From the dappled morning light in the conservatory to the terrace where the sunset soaks the pool and courtyard with a warm glow, the home grasps natural light at every opportunity. Through class and considered detailing, Residence F makes the most of its surrounds and provides an elegant base to vacation and entertain.
