TMRW Home by Blum and Hütt Homes aims to inspire the next generation of architects and designers. With a focus on carbon neutrality and energy efficiency, the residence is constructed from timber, brick and concrete – ensuring it performs sustainably now and into the future.

Passionate about creating a sustainable project, Marc and Felicity Bernstein at Hütt Homes collaborated with Blum to build a family house centred on eco-responsible living. Endeavouring to use the maximum amount of available space, TMRW Home builds on the boundary lines and incorporates storage into the walls, furnishings and staircases. With a desire to remain as carbon neutral as possible, the owners have employed timber as a key material, whilst using brick and concrete across the home’s exterior. From open plan living spaces to gardens on both ground and first levels, the residence incorporates a sense of communal living within – encouraging the idea that sustainable homes are not just for the occupier but also the wider community.

Passionate about creating a sustainable project, Marc and Felicity Bernstein at Hütt Homes collaborated with Blum to build a family house centred on eco-responsible living.

Located in a residential suburb of Melbourne, the home – certified by the Passive House Institute – conveys the atmosphere of communal living from the first step inside. Opening into the sunken living room reminiscent of 1970s conversational pits, a sense of the home’s convivial spirit is felt within the lounge area and the surrounding edges that allow for extra seating. From this room, a glimpse into the rest of the house is visible, with sightlines into the kitchen and dining rooms, through to the rear garden. In selecting the materials for the kitchen, Marc and Felicity collaborated with Blum to help with the functionality, look and feel of the space. Instilling aesthetic functionality, Blum specified the LEGRABOX in the kitchen and first floor bedrooms, increasing the efficiency of the rooms.

Upstairs features the children’s rooms, master bedroom that connects to the roof top garden and a passive bathroom, which hosts a living green wall in the shower. Throughout each room, Blum has assisted in the flow of living, organisation and ergonomic aspects, with floor to ceiling cupboards in the master to staircase storage systems in the children’s rooms. Additionally, a net has been installed that hangs over the children’s rooms to allow for extra play space. Throughout the house, the importance of indoor air quality has been emphasised – a mechanical heat recovery system provides fresh air. Additionally, a heat exchanger allows for temperature stability all year whilst maintaining energy efficiency and carbon neutrality.

Collaborating to construct a living space that utilises environmentally-friendly materials, Hütt Homes and Blum have exemplified how energy efficient homes can be designed and lived in. Certified by the Passive House Institute, TMRW Home aims to inspire future architects and designers.
