Authentically Natural — Wyer & Co. Warehouse by Daniel Boddam Studio
Introducing the quality of indoor-outdoor living to Wyer & Co.’s headquarters, Daniel Boddam Studio references the Australian landscape through material and architectural choices. With honeyed timbers, custom furnishings and artwork from Australian artists, Wyer & Co. inhabits a workplace of comfort and natural connections.
Undertaking the interior design of Wyer & Co.’s new warehouse office, Daniel Boddam Studio creates a space where man-made materials and nature complement one another. Located in Botany, an industrial suburb of Sydney, the warehouse-turned-modern-office was once a simple, brown-bricked building. Through interior design choices and architectural changes, Daniel Boddam Studio decluttered the warehouse and enhanced its space and access to natural light.
Using warm organic tones, the Australian landscape was the primary inspiration for the project. From the front of the modern office, clients and staff enter a lobby filled with natural, light and sandy colours. Whilst the limestone floor imbues the feeling of being outside, the furniture chosen references the hues of the Australian outdoors. From the Wave Sofa to the Pipi Coffee Table, each piece works together to instil serenity and comfort for both employees and clients. From the lobby and into the conference room, a custom-made recycled elm conference table and cabinetry made of Portuguese cork inlay and American walnut continue the reference to nature. A material display room then acts as an intermediary zone between client presentation and staff areas.
Emphasising a collaborative workflow, the office floor is open and filled with natural light, encouraging staff to practice their craft in a comfortable and inspiring setting. Upstairs, Anthony Wyer’s office adopts an open-door policy, while on the ground level, a kitchen space, bathrooms and the main storage are kept bright with honeyed timbers, natural light and warm furniture. Continuing to celebrate local makers, the office space has been filled with artwork by Daniel Boddam and other Australian designers to instil a modernist sensibility. Entrusting Daniel Boddam Studio with the interior, Wyer & Co. took to reviving the landscaping by adding a garden box filled with a simple plant palette. Adding a level of life to the otherwise industrial carpark, Wyer & Co.’s installation sets the groundwork for the seamless indoor-outdoor connection.
Inspired by nature and light, airy spaces, the office supports collaborative work and encourages conversation. As client and designer, Wyer & Co.’s continued workmanship with Daniel Boddam Studio seamlessly blends both firms’ holistic approach to design.
