Intuitive Cooking – Fisher & Paykel’s Touch Screen Ovens
Fisher & Paykel’s product range continues to authentically evolve, as the company pursues its commitment to designing pieces that enhance the lives of the user. Informed by this ethos, the range of touch screen ovens combines considered design on every level – from the materiality of the product to the intuitive guided cooking capability.
The Fisher & Paykel range of touch screen ovens is a collection of premium cooking products controlled by a thoughtfully designed touchscreen interface with helpful pre-set guided cooking functions. The key motivation in creating this range was to allow for the distillation of more complicated cooking information in a refined and user-friendly way, all while creating a rich user experience catering to different levels of cooking expertise.

The ovens offer three different techniques – cook by function, cook by food type and cook by recipe – so the user can cater the cooking experience to their needs and capabilities, for any given meal.
“By offering these different ways of cooking, we are giving the cook the choice as to how much assistance they want. Whether that is by cooking manually, using the food probe with suggestions for the right doneness for a particular cut of meat, or following one of our built-in step-by-step recipes to get a perfect result,” Adam explains.

Creating beautiful products that function well is one of Fisher & Paykel’s core tenets, and the touch screen ovens are the realisation of this. “I really love the level of design aesthetic we have been able to bring to these, as well as the quality of the materials and detailing,” Adam says. He adds that “the ease of use of these products is something I’m really proud of – we put a lot of effort into distilling in-depth functionality in to a beautiful to use, intuitive product.”

Alongside design and functionality, versatility is key to many of Fisher & Paykel’s product ranges. The touch screen ovens are available in both the Minimal and Contemporary style variants, two generous sizes – 60cm wide and 76cm wide – and as a single or double oven. They also allow for seamless integration with a flush fit, meaning minimal gaps between the product and cabinetry.
This level of unification and refinement is evident across much of the Fisher & Paykel product range; the company’s understanding of how its products contribute or respond to a space informing the development of each and every product. As a result, the touch screen ovens have been specified in a range of residential projects by Cheshire Architects, Fearon Hay Architects, Oli Booth Architecture, Seear-Budd Ross, Tom Mark Henry and more.
“As designers, we care about the details of the product in exactly the same way an architect does about the kitchen or home as a whole. Seeing these come together is beautiful thing,” Adam reflects. Further to this, by paring back the material palette and using subtle textural contrasts, a singular aesthetic is created, “allowing the ovens to sit more quietly in a space, letting the kitchen itself be the focus rather than the product.”
