After two years of delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the In Good Company Showroom has finally launched. Over 250 people flocked to the official ‘housewarming’ of Melbourne’s new design hub, appreciating its collection of lighting and furniture in a relaxed evening ambience.

Settled within the leafy Melbourne suburb of Armadale, the new In Good Company Showroom sits neatly tucked behind a suburban train station. Founded by husband-and-wife team Louise and John Bastiras, the multi-disciplinary company centres on well-made furniture and lighting designs, sourced from an array of brands that share an appreciation for modern lifestyles. The heritage Victorian terrace that houses the showroom is a combined concept space, expressing a sense of fluidity learnt from inspirational stores in Paris, Berlin and Istanbul.

A haloed skylight sees natural light stream onto the products on display and, with each working day, individual pieces can be effortlessly moved to create an evolved and reimagined interior environment.

Previously a lively Mexican homewares shop, the showroom’s transformation was defined by the same sense of ease permeating the completed space, intuitively unfolding in response to the vision of the brand. Whilst the graphic arches of the original building were retained, customers are given the freedom to roam in a newly white-washed volume where the counter – the only fixed element of the space – sits inconspicuously to the rear. The resulting space combines the elegance of a gallery with the warm embracing aspect found in a showroom.

Whilst the furniture and lighting collections of In Good Company are unique and diverse – spanning across the local and international, domestic and commercial environments – they are firmly joined in authenticity.

Whilst the furniture and lighting collections of In Good Company are unique and diverse – spanning across the local and international, domestic and commercial environments – they are firmly joined in authenticity. Championing the idea of longevity, the showroom gives a platform to both historically established design brands and smaller, newer collections that carry captivating narratives in place of widespread recognition. Having spent years as a vintage furniture dealer in Adelaide, Co-Founder John contributes both a curated and personally crafted collection to the space. Cumulatively, the contents of the showroom speak to the decades that John and Louise have spent engrossed in the design industry.

Complete with food, wine and plentiful conversation, the launch of the In Good Company Showroom was a resounding success. As the design community gathered, the work of the family-run business was given the enthusiastic celebration it deserved.
