Expansive Celebrations – Madison Desert Club by Kovac Design Studio

Inspired by boutique hotels, Kovac Design Studio administers an array of distinct design choices that cater to its clients’ desires to have a home that allows them to both entertain and celebrate the surrounds. To further emphasise its connection to the landscape, Madison Desert Club is imbued with deliberate material choices and complemented with open plan living spaces to immerse guests in the enchanting scenery of La Quinta.

With expansive areas, Madison Desert Club allows its owners and their guests to enjoy all that La Quinta has to offer. Organised over three levels, the design of the home is heightened with a signature feature named the Oculus – a circular opening in the roof that links the home to the sky. Yet it is the home’s open plan layout that offers the owners and guests a distinct experience where they can connect with the surrounds or find respite in the many rooms and public spaces available.

Flanked by twin primary suites with their own sequestered courtyards, the main home holds a sauna, spa and gym on the lower levels, whilst the two-levels above contain the guestrooms, kitchen, main living, dining rooms and cocktail bar. Defined by its metal mesh curtain, the bar is imbued with warm colours that reference whiskey and give the impression of being inside a sophisticated cocktail bar. Lastly, held on the upper level, a dedicated screening room offers a rare surprise with a screen wall that opens up to the wider living areas. Furthermore, the home is finished with a pool and spa where guests can relax with a drink in hand whilst soaking up the Californian sun. Designed to work just as well for two people or 200, the home is filled with rare moments and distinctive entertainment spaces yet is also complemented with places in which one can always find a moment of respite.

With the goal to allow one to feel as though they are walking outside when moving from room to room, Kovac Design Studio enhances Madison Desert Club with a linking canopy that covers the home and enhances the transition of light throughout the day. A natural connection is communicated through the use of long floor-to-ceiling glass doors and windows in every room and sliding wood fences in the private suites. Intended to give the impression that no boundaries between the home and landscape exist, the design of Madison Desert Club further alludes to the distant surrounds with various interior and exterior material choices.

Complemented with soft-coloured floors that reference the mountains in the distance, the home is finished with washed rough plaster on walls both inside and out. Additionally, the various marbles and finished woods reference the role Palm Springs plays in being the location for glamorous events such as Coachella. To further elaborate on this aura of luxuriousness, Kovac Design Studio creates pink, blue, grey and yellow rooms to subtly identify each guestroom whilst also framing the rooms with views that create a deeper sense of surprise. With attentiveness, the architects have responded to its clients’ needs and desires by creating a home that offers unparalleled connections to La Quinta’s scenery.
