Detailed Inspirations – Ace Hotel Brooklyn by Roman and Williams
Long-time Ace Hotel associates Roman and Williams imbue Ace Hotel Brooklyn with a vivacity that takes inspiration from the unrefined stylishness of artist studios. From its soaring ceiling to its open spaces filled with organic colours, materials and textures, Ace Hotel Brooklyn evolves as a living structure with over 13 floors, all while encouraging guests to join New York City’s vibrant lifestyle.
Constructed from raw concrete, metal, glass and precast concrete elements, Ace Hotel Brooklyn comfortably asserts itself into New York City’s landscape. Moreover, the interior features elements of exposed concrete married with surfaces of Douglas fir, oak, plywood and leather to enrich the organic design story of Ace Hotel Brooklyn. At The Stoop – the ground floor entrance – guests and visitors are offered a space that Roman and Williams imagined as a gateway for community, creation and casual gathering.
After entering, the reception staff greet guests at the concrete desk that’s been poured in place, before encouraging them to continue into The Lobby, which is stationed directly opposite. Finished with warm plywood-panelled walls, large sculptural beams overhead and oak and concrete floors, The Lobby is furnished with vintage and custom wooden furniture – all of which is arranged around a large communal table to encourage connection. Located at the edge of The Lobby is The Garden, a green space that offers a place of respite from the hustle and bustle of New York City.
Situated over the remaining levels of Ace Hotel Brooklyn are the guestrooms, which were inspired by Le Corbusier’s workspace retreat, Le Cabanon. All guestrooms feature handcrafted furnishings, including custom sofas and chairs, custom cotton bedding and purposely built, minimalist fixtures. Further amenities include Ace Hotel Brooklyn’s restaurant, a place where guests can enjoy inviting meals in a relaxed setting. The in-house gym is designed in partnership with streetwear brand Yeah, I Work Out and offers modern exercise equipment alongside vintage iron weights. Additionally, The Gallery constantly rotates its exhibitions of fine art, fashion, literature, science and technology.
