In Partnership with ownworld

Australian contract furniture consultancy ownworld continues to expand its stable of exemplary brands by partnering with esteemed Brisbane-based maker Derlot.

Derlot joins an impressive line-up of local design companies represented by ownworld, including Dowel Jones, Aplós by Helen Kontouris and Remington Matters. Derlot, established in 2006 by Australian-Argentinian designer Alexander Lotersztain, reflects his diverse international experience. After graduating from the Queensland College of Art and Design, Lotersztain honed his craft in Tokyo with GK Design Group and IDÉE and later in the design hubs of Milan and Barcelona.

This global journey deeply influences Derlot’s design ethos. The brand has collaborated with designers in the US and Italy, as well as locally, to create its human-centred, multi-award-winning furniture and lighting. Sustainability is a paramount consideration for the company. All the brand’s local manufacturing partners carry full GECA certification, and this commitment to responsible production ensures that Derlot’s localised production is both conscious and sustainable.

Highlights of the range now available through ownworld include the Pipeline modular lounging system, which Lotersztain says was inspired by the bold, free-spirited approach of the 1970s. A travel moment in Egypt – sitting on Persian rugs scattered with bolster cushions under the night sky while camping in the desert – was also influential. “I wanted to bring that casual experience into a modern setting … with a level of minimalism and modularity synonymous with all of Derlot’s collections,” he explains.

A greener version of the original, Stump Recycled “stands as a symbol of a greener future and an ongoing pursuit of sustainable objectives.”

Then there’s the Stump Recycled, a stool with a bold kaleidoscopic appearance that’s made from 80 per cent recycled post-industrial plastic LDPE. A greener version of the original, Stump Recycled “stands as a symbol of a greener future and an ongoing pursuit of sustainable objectives,” says Lotersztain. Derlot is also set to create a greener iteration of its versatile, ultra-durable 2008 Twig bench using recycled materials.

Strap, an Australian-manufactured outdoor collection, also has impeccable eco credentials – made from 70 per cent recycled aluminium, which itself can also be recycled. The Strap range was inspired by the classic form of 1970s sunlounges, updated for contemporary living. It comprises chairs, stools and lounges, available in black and white powder-coated aluminium or a wide range of custom colours.

The partnership with Derlot is a natural fit for ownworld, which provides the A&D market with an unparalleled range of contemporary furniture from internationally and locally acclaimed, ethically minded makers like Bensen, Desalto, Inclass, laCividina and many more. Its curated collection of seating, lounges, tables, desks, lighting, storage and accessories is applicable for both residential and commercial spaces, and can be experienced at ownworld showrooms in Sydney and Melbourne.
