Made by Storey Charting the way
The team at Made by Storey are irrefutable timber devotees; their mission, which is outlined as a “quest to contribute to the culture of wood as an integral element of architecture and interior design” is a marker of this.
Now the Australian timber flooring manufacturer is raising the bar with an innovative new range primed to redefine how timber is specified in residential contexts. As Made by Storey co-founder Damir Dzuzdanovic says, the impetus for Trace by Storey was to bring a totally new level of customisation to the timber flooring market – from board dimensions and finishes to detail and pattern laying. “What seemed to be missing was a luxury option for bespoke homes that was totally customisable in terms of size, colour and detail,” says Dzuzdanovic. He adds that Trace – which is crafted from the finest oak, is FSC and PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) certified and manufactured by a generations-old production team in Belgium – “really caters to the wildest of flooring aspirations.”
Several elements are integral to this. Firstly, single Trace boards can be up to 15 metres long, surpassing current standard lengths that typically sit at about two metres. Secondly, details such as stair nosings can be completely customised to complement a staircase design, and finishes are entirely bespoke, allowing clients to choose their preferred tones and hues in line with their project’s look and feel. Interior designer Alexandra Donohoe Church of Decus, who spearheaded the design of Made by Storey’s Sydney showroom, speaks to these capabilities. “We’ve already started specifying Trace in our projects,” says Donohoe Church. “The versatility and customisation are on another level to other local offerings and the quality is exceptional.”
Most notably, Trace encompasses custom joinery as well. “We can provide the exact same product for flooring and cabinetry profiles, allowing for an entirely seamless interior,” says Dzuzdanovic. This creates strength and harmony in the palette, consequently championing the use of timber as the primary material in contemporary residential contexts. “Imagine wall-to-wall 15-metre boards from a single majestic log with custom stair detail options and joinery to match. That’s Trace.”

Embedded in the same affinity for craft and creative expression as Made by Storey’s foundational ranges of European and French oak flooring, Trace is a skilfully conceived evolution that reaffirms the company’s commitment to timber.
