Within the storied Sofitel Sydney Wentworth, House Made Hospitality has unveiled four distinct venues with interiors designed by FK: Delta Rue, Tilda, Bar Tilda and Wentworth Bar. Together, they form a precinct where each space is defined by its unique character while maintaining a cohesive sense of place.

Each venue offers its own story, anchored by the firm’s attention to texture, scale and atmosphere. Delta Rue invites guests into a dining room that deftly combines French colonial charm with the vibrancy of Hanoi’s Old Quarter. A nature-inspired wallpaper by Kerrie Brown forms the centrepiece, its soft tones of green and grey depicting lush trees and birds, a backdrop that contrasts with the richtoned furniture and reclaimed teak chairs crafted in collaboration with Reddie. Textures and materials are layered to evoke a sense of nostalgia and modernity, with woven elements, pill-shaped tables, tiles from Surface Gallery and grey limestone pavers from Eco Outdoor forming a harmonious balance between structure and softness. “We combined Frenchcolonial aesthetics with Vietnamese-inspired textiles and prints to transport guests to another time and place,” says Karen Morris, associate principal of FK.

Stepping into Tilda feels like an ode to Australiana, distilled into an elegant, contemporary dining experience.

Stepping into Tilda feels like an ode to Australiana, distilled into an elegant, contemporary dining experience. “We’ve embraced a warm, earthy palette and natural materials to bring a sense of the Australian landscape inside,” says Morris. Locally sourced furniture from Jardan and Reddie defines the space, with oak chairs featuring woven leather backs encircling burgundy-topped tables. The rustic travertine floor provides a grounding element, while textured plaster walls echo the tones of the Australian landscape. Lighting by Shaun Dudley at Transmitt Lighting and Sarah Nedovic casts a warm glow over the space, tying together the earthy shades. Dried native floral arrangements punctuate the setting, providing a tactile link to the broader Australian narrative.

Bar Tilda, by contrast, offers a retreat with an emphasis on mood and detail. Burgundy plaster walls and dramatic stone finishes form the style foundation, with the central marble bar – crafted from Calacatta Viola and Hugo marbles from Artedomus – the focal point. Table lamps and directional lighting enhance the sense of intimacy, while soft lighting highlights textures and shadows lend the venue a timeless quality. Custom joinery and furniture from the likes of Design by Them and Hay ensure every element feels cohesive and deliberate, while the restrained use of bold materials adds to the space’s inviting luxury.

Green microcement bar tops Bar Tilda exudes moody elegance with burgundy walls and a striking marble bar, while Wentworth Bar offers a lush, open-air retreat framed by greenery and a copper canopy. and terrazzo tables sit among cascading plants, while a striking copper canopy by H&E Architects provides both shelter and warmth. The flow between indoor and outdoor spaces is seamless, with natural materials and fluid forms reinforcing the connection to the surrounds. “Our design for Wentworth Bar was all about creating an organic flow,” says Morris. “We wanted guests to step off the streets and into a space that surprises – a luxurious green escape amid the cityscape.”

The $70 million refurbishment of Sofitel Sydney Wentworth celebrates the building’s modernist heritage while introducing contemporary design elements. Key features include a refreshed lobby with sculptural furnishings and a bronze facade, reimagined guestrooms and suites with a nod to 1960s glamour and updated conference and event spaces. Together, these updates reframe the hotel’s legacy as a mid-century icon, blending its rich history with a renewed sense of elegance and innovation.

Each space is distinct in its identity yet rooted in a shared philosophy of craftsmanship, local sourcing and a thoughtful connection to place.
