Two new ranges from Royal Oak Floors – Heritage and Natural – reflect the brand’s elevated offerings, designed with Australian spaces top of mind.

For more than two decades, Royal Oak Floors has rewritten the rule book on low-maintenance timber flooring. Founded by Kim Harper, the company’s engineered oak flooring – sustainably harvested from single-source oak – has become an emblem of laid-back luxury, with tones, grains and finishes suited to an array of design languages.

The rustic Heritage collection features a dark tone, authentic grain and knotty texture, reminiscent of moody whiskey bars and traditional European farmhouses.

Now, Royal Oak Floors is releasing two new collections, Heritage and Natural. And while the former is earthy and characterful and the latter has a sleek, contemporary aesthetic, both options celebrate the innate beauty of European oak and are crafted to work seamlessly with Australian interiors and sensibilities. Inspired by vintage woodworking traditions but inherently suited to modern life, the rustic Heritage collection features a dark tone, authentic grain and knotty texture, reminiscent of moody whiskey bars and traditional European farmhouses. Its naturally aged appearance is the result of a superior grading process that leaves organic colours and inconsistencies intact, highlighting the beauty of the timber.

“It looks intentionally lived-in, as though it was laid 100 years ago,” notes Harper. Additionally, the timber is treated with an oxidative lacquer, which seals the surface to create a soft glow and an equally plush feel underfoot. Available in four colours, Heritage floorboards are 19 millimetres thick and 250 or 300 millimetres wide.

Conversely, the floorboards in the Natural collection are light and airy, providing a subdued canvas that allows for a refined and creative expression.

Conversely, the floorboards in the Natural collection are light and airy, providing a subdued canvas that allows for a refined and creative expression. Developed in consultation with the Australian A&D community, the range is part of the brand’s Premium portfolio, whereby each floorboard is meticulously graded for consistency to ensure an air of tranquil uniformity.

The Natural boards are also treated with an oxidative lacquer that produces the appearance of an oiled floor – without the hassle of regular maintenance. “Unlike conventional finishes, this innovative, air-dried process provides a soft, breathable coating that looks and feels more natural,” says Harper. “It feels beautiful underfoot and in tune with the concept of barefoot luxury.” Defined by a restrained and minimalist spirit, the collection is available in seven colours, with boards up to 300 millimetres wide and 3,000 millimetres long, and either 15 or 20 millimetres thick.

The collections signify Royal Oak Floors’ step towards augmenting its offerings to suit a wider range of aesthetics and applications while staying true to its legacy. “As such, whether your interior design is aligned to the wabi-sabi elements of perfect imperfections or a calm minimalist look, the collections are perfect artisanal solutions for the Australian lifestyle.”

Both ranges also reflect how seriously the brand takes its commitment to sustainability. The floorboards are rated E0, the lowest formaldehyde emission level in engineered wood products. “By rejecting commonly used harsh chemicals and artificial wood treatments, the collection supports personal wellbeing and is the environmentally responsible choice,” says Harper. Additionally, the timber is sourced from FSC-certified forests, a certification that protects biodiversity and respects the rights of Indigenous people, along with workers and local communities.
