Abey Celebrates its 70th Anniversary
In 2026, acclaimed Australian brand Abey celebrates 70 years of crafting innovative and high-quality kitchen, bathroom and laundry fixtures and finishes.
Seven decades ago, Abey began in Melbourne in a modest way – as A and B Tool and Die Manufacturers, specialising in press tools for Ford, General Motors-Holden and the engineering industry. It was 1956, the year of the Melbourne Olympics, and Abey’s now managing director, Geoff Anderson, recalls watching his family-owned company’s humble workshop in suburban Airport West being built with commemorative bricks stamped with the Olympic symbol.
Ten years later, the company began producing tooling for a seatbelt manufacturer, a market that expanded rapidly once seatbelts became mandatory in new cars from 1971. “This surge in demand prompted us to establish our own press shop, enabling us to expand into plumbing and building products – a pivotal moment that marked the birth of Abey Australia,” recalls Anderson.
In the decades since, the company has continued to produce an expansive and high-quality portfolio of fixtures and finishes that pushes the limits of both creativity and design in kitchens, bathrooms and laundries. Highlights of this approach include launching the Abey Interchangeable Clipping System, developing the Flexishaft Skylight, and introducing corrosion-resistant masonry products in response to the Newcastle earthquake. “We also expanded into premium stainless-steel kitchen sinks and a full range of kitchen and bathroom tapware, developed the world’s only horizontal powder-coating machine and continue to grow our industrial clipping and masonry solutions,” says Anderson.
“As we celebrate seven decades of progress, our commitment to Australian manufacturing and shaping the future of building and plumbing solutions remains stronger than ever.”
With architecturally designed showrooms in all major Australian capital cities and a 3,500-plus product range – including leading global brands such as Gareth Ashton, Barazza, Chambord and Burlington – Abey continues to build on its legacy while perennially looking forward. Launching the Piazza Pearl Arc series of sinks – which incorporate the most recent cathodic arc surface treatment technology – in 2025 reflects the company’s continuing embrace of innovation in the kitchen, laundry and bathroom market.
“As we celebrate seven decades of progress, our commitment to Australian manufacturing and shaping the future of building and plumbing solutions remains stronger than ever,” says Anderson.
