Stone Meadow Lane
A beautifully designed pavilion-style home in Montecito, California, Stone Meadow Lane by Plus Development foregrounds light, openness and a relaxed approach to living.
Located on a quiet cul-de-sac just off Picacho Lane, Stone Meadow Lane sits in one of Montecito’s most sought-after pockets. Rather than relying on size or spectacle, the home prioritises proportion, light and honest materials to create a sense of calm and balance. The project was designed in collaboration with Mexico City-based architect Manuel Cervantes Estudio, whose influence can be seen in the warm, earthy materials and clean architectural lines.
Inspired by the principles of mid-century California modernism with a contemporary twist, Cervantes arranged the home as a long, single-storey structure. A low-pitched roof emphasises the residence’s horizontal form, which sits gently across the site. A gravel driveway leads to the entry, where large glass-and-timber front doors frame sightlines to the pool, lawn and lush gardens beyond. Here, the immediate impression is one of ease, openness and a connection to the outdoors.
Inside, the atmosphere is light-filled and welcoming. The main pavilion and two smaller wings form a U-shaped layout around the central courtyard and lap pool. Glazed walkways link each wing, bringing in natural light and maintaining the outlook onto the garden. The main pavilion contains the kitchen, living and dining areas, along with three bedrooms, each with its own spacious ensuite and walk-in robe. One wing is dedicated to the generous primary suite, while the other houses a guestroom and study. Each bedroom is oriented to views of nature while still maintaining a sense of privacy and seclusion.
The material palette is warm and understated, with timber, plaster, brick and stone employed simply and elegantly. Wide timber floorboards run throughout the home and are complemented by custom timber joinery including cabinetry, fireplace surrounds and a robust built-in bookcase. Incredible skylights bring in soft overhead light, while full-height glazing and large French doors allow easy access to outdoor spaces.
In this home, everything revolves around the central courtyard. Along with the stunning lap pool, it features a fire pit, sun lounges and an outdoor dining area designed for use throughout the year, thanks to Southern California’s mild climate. It works just as well for quiet mornings or relaxed gatherings with family and friends.
The interiors are furnished by Corinne Mathern Studio and add warmth and texture through natural materials and simple forms. Stone basins on wooden trestles, hand-carved timber furniture and organic materials such as linen and rattan create spaces that feel sophisticated yet comfortable and lived-in.
Ultimately, Stone Meadow Lane captures the essence of Montecito living at its best, offering comfort, privacy and a strong connection to place.
