Independent Hall

The Versatile Indpendent Hall in the inner-city Melbourne suburb of Fitzory is an example of historical Melbourne architecture and Design + Diplomacy were excited to introduce their unique contemorary style to the space.

The existing space was a classical inner-city Melbourne hidden gem, a perfect example of a bygone era of Australian architecture. The hall has had many purposes over the years, taking the position of a church, an Aboriginal mission, a kindergarten, and even a TV series set. The team of Tim Gauci, Saskia Steinhart and Rhea Koumi from Design + Diplomacy were extremely excited to renovate this beautiful piece of Fitzroy’s architectural history.

The overall aim of the Independent Hall project was to retain the eclectic and original feel of the space, whilst introducing quality finishes and contemporary modern comforts. The historical façade is the most significant aspect of the Independent Hall. Design + Diplomacy touched up the façade where necessary, whilst being careful to retain original aspects in order to preserve the history and soul of the building.

Inside the Independent Hall the team from Design +Diplomacy repaired and painted all necessary areas. Another significant aspect of the residential makeover was the reconfiguration of the staircase in order to create a prominent landing and door on the ground floor.

The team of Tim Gauci, Saskia Steinhart and Rhea Koumi from Design + Diplomacy were extremely excited to renovate this beautiful piece of Fitzroy’s architectural history.

After the majority of the renovation was completed the design team then completed the styling of the space in order to prepare the Independent Hall for a significant sales campaign. Property styling and staging was a significant part of the brief provided by the client.

Through their unique brand of contemporary design and styling the Design + Diplomacy team have transformed the Independent Hall space into a modern inner-city home with a design that truly celebrates the historical nature of the building.
