From the Designer
Village House house was designed to be a ranch style house which had a strong link to its landscape.
We designed Village House around the property’s outdoor elements, ensuring that its layout takes full advantage of its views while main-taining separate wings for future family members. Open to all but the southern aspect, every room of the home interacts with the lush garden and its expansive views of Mount Macedon.
Bi-fold bathroom windows allow the residents to bathe in sunlight, while the living and dining spaces spill on to an expansive veranda making it a perfect space for entertaining.
Board and Batten cladding was used to provide strong shadow lines, and with board and batten joints could be hidden removing the cracked render appearance which would age the house. Hardieflex was a great solution as a durable building fabric.
To address the clients’ need for a home which pays homage to their affinity for gardening, the choice of materials has been carefully con-sidered. The walls – which would have had a flat and rather plain appearance – have been made interesting with the cladding’s joinery creating shadows which give the house depth and a changing face.
KM landscape design in consultation with clients and plans a garden to bed the house in its beautiful surrounds and make every view of the garden relaxing. There have been some surprises in the landscaping. A private courtyard to the South which was designed for services became a private place to relax and much more of a feature thanks to good landscaping work.
Energy efficiency features include. Designing to aspect, low VOC paints, double glazing throughout. Low voltage lighting. 50,000 litres water storage. Solar hot water.
In all a very comfortable and relaxing ranch style house.
