From the Architect
The Caballa Canalla restaurant, built by MESURA Parterns in Arquitecture has been brought into the typical relaxed and friendly atmosphere of the Barceloneta. The reform project was tightly related to the fact of the character of this particular place. Without searching a luxurious decoration, the idea was to profit its Mediterranean roots due to its proximity to the ocean.
The connection between both floors is the most significant point in the project. It is a grand catwalk, at the height of 120 cm, which goes to an exceptional balcony with a traditional view of the Barceloneta neighbourhood. The first floor corresponds with the daytime of the project as it hold a clear and neutral colour scheme.
Its own character is due to continuous micro cement flooring, the placement of acoustic foam to walls and ceilings, which dignifies the bare or exposed structure of the market, and the use of materials with patina like rattan & sisal or the tiling with small ceramics format that cover the leading element in the room, the catwalk. The space is completed with a wonderful show-cooking kitchen, opening to the main dining room and to the terrace.
