Gaggenau’s Kitchen of the Year Design Contest is back in 2025, with a trip to the 2026 Salone de Mobile Milano up for grabs.

Dedicated to recognising the best in Australian and New Zealand design, Gaggenau’s 2025 Kitchen of the Year Design Contest has returned in 2025 for its third iteration. The esteemed appliance powerhouse has thrown down the gauntlet to Australasia’s A&D community to nominate kitchens that reflect the brand’s commitment to craftsmanship and innovative spirit.

Gaggenau’s legacy has always been deeply intertwined with enduring craftsmanship and visionary design,” says Olya Yemchenko, the company’s Australian senior brand manager. “Our relentless pursuit of design excellence and functional longevity is reflected in every project we support. We seek designs that not only marry form and function but also redefine what’s possible in kitchen architecture.

“This year’s award challenges kitchen designers, architects, interior designers, builders and developers to transcend conventional boundaries, crafting culinary spaces that embody the essence of luxury and sustainability.”

Designs will be evaluated “based on criteria such as originality, responsiveness to client briefs, user-centred design, execution quality and integration of Gaggenau’s state-of-the-art appliances.”

The award has two categories – luxury home and multi-residential – and entries will be judged by an esteemed panel who’ll evaluate kitchen designs “based on criteria such as originality, responsiveness to client briefs, user-centred design, execution quality and integration of Gaggenau’s state-of-the-art appliances,” says Yemchenko.

This year’s panel members are: Eva-Marie Prineas of Studio Prineas; Damian Hannah, CEO and design lead at New Zealand’s German Kitchens Limited; Richard Archer of Archer Design; Mim Design’s Miriam Fanning; Sue Carr of Carr; and Martin Cooper, chair of the Auckland Executive Committee of the Property Council of New Zealand. Prineas was the winner of the luxury home category in the 2023 awards for Fisherman’s House in Birchgrove, Sydney, with Carr’s Victoria & Burke project in Melbourne’s Camberwell taking the gong in the multi-residential section.
