Abode’s Bespoke Italian Fabrics
An exclusive new retirement project highlights bedding brand Abode’s scope for crafting bespoke Italian-made bed linen to perfectly complement home designs of any size or budget.
A new collaboration between luxury bedding brand Abode and interior designer Emma Trinh of Flying Mouse Studio showcases the versatility of Abode’s bespoke linen service against the backdrop of a project in the Stockland Halcyon Estate, an exclusive retirement community in Berwick, Melbourne. Every element of the project – from the furnishings to the hardware – was rigorously curated by Trinh to bring to life the striking space, its neutral palette seasoned with colourful artworks and homewares.
Trinh called on Abode to create bespoke bed linen for summer and winter looks in the main bedroom. Abode’s curation complemented the layered textures and fabrics and bolstered the room’s luxurious tactility. Each piece was handpicked or custom designed then made in Abode’s Melbourne studio using fine Italian fabrics. For the first look, Abode’s Tulum quilt cover, with its rippled design, and linen wallpaper from Phillip Jeffries brought texture to the smooth Nova sateen sheeting. The quilt’s muted colouring also offset the rich jewel shades of Palazzo velvet cushions, burgundy marble bedside table tops and an eye-catching bedhead by Zenn Design upholstered in Harris tweed fabric. The second look leans on a custom quilt handcrafted from Nova sateen fabric in Heather and Nude, which has been stitched with a geometric pattern.
The brief for the guest bedroom was to create a peaceful retreat. Here, Abode selected a light-coloured linen quilt cover from its Citi range and paired it with the subtle stripes and tactility of the Soleil throw, handwoven by Italian artisans from cashmere, merino wool, mohair and alpaca. Added texture and colour come courtesy of Abode’s Vittoria throw and Palazzo cushions.
Beyond the bedrooms, Abode supplied homewares for the study, bathrooms and living spaces, demonstrating its ability to tackle custom projects. The relatively small scale of the project and its unique nature as a home for retired residents reflect Abode’s dedication to working across projects of any size or budget. And by crafting the majority of its range in its Melbourne studio, Abode is able to offer an extensive bespoke service.
The multifaceted Stockland Halcyon project shines a light on Abode’s decades of experience crafting luxury textiles and its ability to adapt to an array of styles and needs. Its founders, the Adair family, have been embedded in the Australian design community since 1900, when the first Adairs haberdashery opened on Melbourne’s Chapel Street. Those years of experience continued when the family parted ways with the brand and launched Abode more than 30 years ago. The family’s deep knowledge of textiles – and its extensive international network of craftspeople – gives it the scope to adapt sizing, finishes and trims to work to a specific brief or project.
Abode’s experience allows it to empower the design community with a vast array of possibilities for fabrics and finishes for luxury projects. The subtle opulence and visual drama of the Stockland Halcyon project shows that quality in full flight.
