Adelaide Residence by William Burton Leopardi takes inspiration from its relationship with place. Showcasing storied life through a layered lens of individual experiences, the home is repurposed for a new beginning with the introduction of filtered light and refined living spaces. Sitting on the edge of the city fringe, Adelaide Residence offers a discreetness that is becoming increasingly rare to find.

Williams Burton Leopardi continues the lineage of Adelaide Residence, telling the story of an evolved relationship to home that mirrors the quiet and calm demeanour of its owner. Previously used as a commercial place of business and healing, the structure saw a new chapter begin due to a previous owner’s aspiration to repurpose the residence. By bringing intimacy into the home through filtered lighting and enclosed spaces, Adelaide Residence turns the idea of residential living into a retreat.

The project’s reinvigoration made for a reflective and emotional transition from a past life to the present, where memories of treasured items and collected gems continue within the long life of Adelaide Residence.

As you enter the home, light spills into the high-ceiling entrance, highlighting sophisticated muted tones in the front rooms, before streaming through to the deeper areas of the residence. Once inside, luminance is encouraged from all directions, animating spaces and elevating the softness of the colour palette of the kitchen and living rooms, inviting relaxation and refuge. The colour palette is echoed through to the bathrooms, where white subway tiles help to direct a notion of openness in an otherwise usually closed space. Though light and open, the home imbues a sense of warmth and intimacy, offering privacy from the streetscape and implementing soft and modest colouring.

Adelaide Residence faces the protected natural parklands; there was a natural desire to showcase the individual experience of retreat with privacy from the public. To encourage this, the rear stable structure was repurposed into a bespoke wine storage and entertainment area to create the perfect space for social gathering.
