Acoustic Refinement – Armourcoat Acoustic Plaster System by Bishop Master Finishes

Words by Sara Jacob

Inhered with a dynamic sense of refinement, Armourcoat Acoustic Plaster System balances effective sound absorption with a smooth and even finish. Installed exclusively by Bishop Master Finishes, the innovative product forms an effortless means of elevating acoustic solutions in commercial, hospitality and domestic spaces.

Often distinguishing interior spaces, acoustic solutions indicate a well-considered internal environment. Whilst ideas of colour and tactility offer immediate satisfaction during the design process – adding substance to a scheme from the visualisation stage onwards – the treatment of sound also plays a defining role in the outcome of a project. Without proper acoustic preparation, a vaulted heritage building can become the site of a cacophony, with voices reverberating off its towering walls. Similarly, the tranquil character of a restaurant can be lost in the noise of cutlery and dinner conversation as hard, sleek surfaces reflect sound across the room. An acoustic solution is not only necessary to avoid a stressful interior experience, but also to enhance a design from its conception, imbuing a space with a sense of calm, maturity or comfort in coherence with the emerging scheme.

Armourcoat Acoustic Plaster System transforms the ceiling surface into an acoustic panel, engaging with aesthetics whilst executing significant function.

Armourcoat Acoustic Plaster System transforms the ceiling surface into an acoustic panel, engaging with aesthetics whilst performing significant function. The system sees a recycled mineral wool-composite panel installed onto a standard taped and jointed ceiling, finished with a seamless layer of Armourcoat Acoustic plaster that allows sound to permeate through to be absorbed by the panel behind. With a sophisticated rendered finish, the system mimics the presentation of a regular ceiling, thus forming an invisible acoustic solution. Whilst Armourcoat Acoustic Plaster System can be pigmented to a range of standard or custom colours – with the standard selection celebrating the nuance of gentle grey tones – it is also inherently practical, possessing a Quietmark award-winning level of acoustic performance with a noise reduction coefficient rating of 0.8 or 0.9. The coveted award results from a vigorous process of scientific testing, intended to determine the products that diminish noise most effectively in a given category.

In addition to the Quietmark award, Armourcoat Acoustic Plaster System amasses points under the LEED Green Building Rating System. The high-density mineral wool panels provide effective thermal insulation, optimising the energy performance of an architectural development. Consisting of up to 80 per cent recycled content, including post-consumer and pre-consumer recycled material, the system boosts the sustainable character of any building. Alongside establishing a comfortable thermal environment and acoustic setting, the system also reflects consideration of personal health and does not contain any volatile organic compounds.
