Aura at Arncliffe by TCB Building Group
Sydney custom builder TCB Building Group crafts refined, personal homes marked by collaboration and quality workmanship, an approach exemplified in its latest project, Aura at Arncliffe.
For TCB Building Group, building a home is about more than delivering on a brief. It’s about understanding the people who will live there, interpreting their vision with care, and creating spaces that feel both refined and personal. Based in Sydney and family-owned, the custom builder approaches each residential and commercial project with a focus on quality, transparency and connection. Its belief in collaboration and clarity underpins a building process designed to be as rewarding as the outcome.
At the core of TCB’s ethos is a desire to nurture architectural and bespoke ideas. It works closely with clients to realise their vision through tailored solutions and a seamless journey from first consultation to final delivery. A recent project, Aura at Arncliffe in southern Sydney, exemplifies this approach.
Imagined with hardwood timbers and a restrained natural palette, Aura is a renovation shaped by sustainability, refinement and a strong connection to materiality. Without a formal architect or interior designer, TCB collaborated directly with the client to understand their vision and bring it to life by drawing on different building methodologies to translate ideas into a cohesive and personal home.
The timber is a defining feature throughout, reflecting the client’s love of tactile, earthy materials. From the custom Tasmanian oak window reveals that frame the interiors to the Laminex joinery, each timber element was selected to enhance continuity and a sense of calm. Victorian ash cladding wraps the home’s exterior and extends into the deck and ceiling soffits, while fine timber trims above the rear deck reinforce the material language. These soft transitions continue internally. Flooring moves from warm timber into grey micro-cement in the bathrooms as a deliberate departure from traditional tiles, bringing a minimal, day-spa feel, and allowing for the architectural elements to take visual precedence.
Throughout Aura, the attention to detail in workmanship and finishes speaks not only to TCB’s meticulous approach to quality, but also to the client’s love of timber and tonal restraint. Dormer windows and large openings draw in natural light and landscape, while brass fixtures and natural textures layer in tonal warmth.
Sustainability was also front of mind. Sandstone uncovered during excavation was repurposed beneath the blackbutt decking, offering a rustic feature with practical drainage benefits. A detached gym and workshop reflects the material palette and detailing of the main home, but with a softened roofline and distinct junctions that give it a distinct character.
Aura showcases TCB Building Group’s ability to translate vision into reality – enhancing everyday living through craftsmanship, precision and a deep respect for natural materials.
