Bondi Beach Semi
Bondi Beach Semi sits on a quiet, leaf-strewn street, tucked away from the busier thoroughfares of Bondi. Studio George has created a refined family retreat that cleverly balances coastal sensibility with urban sophistication.
“The location offered a sense of seclusion, which guided us towards creating a haven for the family,” says Sara Horvath, interior architect for Studio George. “Its proximity to the coast meant we wanted the home to feel in tune with its surroundings. Our reconfiguration of the layout brought in more light and stronger connections between inside and out, ensuring the home reflects both its urban context and its natural setting.”
With two children at the heart of the household, Studio George prioritised family-friendly spaces that radiate comfort and warmth. The reimagined floor plan encompasses multiple living areas, four bedrooms – including a generous primary suite – and a dedicated home office, offering flexibility and room for the family to grow.
“Oak was a defining material, chosen for its warmth, natural character and timeless quality. It grounds the design and connects each space,” says Horvath. “Marble stood out for its boldness and ability to elevate the palette with sophistication. The curved walls became a design device that paired beautifully with these finishes, softening the home’s geometry and making the interior feel fluid and inviting. The result is a series of spaces that support everyday family life while carrying a quiet sophistication that anchors the entire home.”
This sensibility continues throughout. In the children’s bedrooms, oak detailing is paired with lighter finishes to encourage privacy and calm while remaining adaptable as the kids grow. The primary suite adopts a different character – a restful yet quietly indulgent retreat defined by richer textures and luxurious touches, such as an earthy Armadillo rug and an Apartment 91 headboard, offering a heightened sense of escape.
The bathrooms echo this tactile approach, combining veined marble and Onsite Supply and Design’s porcelain and marble mosaic wall tiles. The interplay of materials adds texture and variation, lending the spaces a contemporary edge.
The interiors reflect a curated balance of comfort and style. Relaxed yet elegant furniture anchors each space, while inky blues weave through upholstery and accents, adding richness that enhances – rather than overwhelms – the coastal palette.
“Among the home’s stand-out pieces is a custom JD.Lee Furniture dining table that transforms from a sculptural round form into an elongated three-metre oval,” says Horvath. “Compact for daily family meals, it expands to accommodate larger gatherings, embodying the home’s philosophy of balancing everyday life with celebration.”
Artworks were chosen for their subtle textures and tonal qualities, adding character without disturbing the sense of calm. Together with the home’s layered elements, these create a space that feels both elegant and approachable – a tactile sanctuary that naturally responds to its coastal context and the rhythms of family life.
