A celebration of sustainable and waste-free design, HAY’s latest exhibition, ‘CHROMA’, offers a colourful and playful exploration of the Danish brand’s iconic Eco Collection. Taking place over two weeks at HAY’s Fitzroy store in Melbourne, in conjunction with Saturday Indesign held on 2 September 2023, ‘CHROMA’ invites visitors to reconsider ways to reduce the environmental footprint of design.

‘CHROMA’ is an installation revealing HAY’s new Eco Collection, a series of furniture pieces entirely recrafted from household waste. As part of this, the exhibition will relaunch two of HAY’s bestselling ranges – the About A Collection and Colour Crate. Both ranges are now made with 100 per cent recycled post-consumer plastic waste, a material derived from the waste of household items such as televisions and washing machines.

HAY has been creating bold furniture, lighting and accessories for over 20 years and is always looking to innovate in terms of aesthetics, responsible design and function. The exhibition is defined by vibrancy, colour and energy that is typical of HAY’s bespoke aesthetic approach. Visitors will be able to engage in a series of immersive installations, including the world-travelling Colour Crate House direct from Copenhagen’s 3daysofdesign festival.

Visitors can rediscover About A Collection – HAY’s most versatile and perhaps most pragmatic furniture series – which comprises dining and conference chairs, office chairs, bar stools, lounge chairs, tables, a footstool and a sofa. Colour Crate will also be exhibited – a series of colourful storage boxes with a perforated design made from 100 per cent recycled post-consumer plastic waste in a variety of bold colours and sizes.

Shining a light on HAY’s dedication to creating collections with smarter methods and materials, democratic design and use of responsible materials and methods, ‘CHROMA’ eloquently speaks to current conversations around the design industry and sustainability.
