Electrical switches and power points are elevated from prosaic to premium in Clipsal’s luxurious new Solis Collection, which took out a 2024 Good Design Award.
Clipsal has launched Solis, a premium collection of electrical switches and power points geared towards architects and designers working on high-end residential projects. Minimalist design meets trailblazing technology in the collection, which comprises two singular ranges: the Clipsal Solis and the Solis T Series. Both are made using luxurious materials and set a new benchmark in home electricals, earning the long-established Australian company a 2024 Good Design Award.
The Clipsal Solis range is stripped back and monochromatic. Each product in the series is available in a painted matte finish in either White or Black, and is made from recycled materials. Push buttons and switches sit flush with the slimline covers that seamlessly integrate into the space in which they are installed. The range can be customised with dimmers (push button or rotary controlled) and smart power points.
The elegant power points and electric switches of the Solis T Series collection are high-end in both look and feel, and are made with materials that exude quality. Mid-century modernism informed the design, as well as the solid toggles and brushed metal. Square edges and thin covers introduce a modern element, as do subtle LED indicators. The T Series is available in three finishes: platinum aluminium, ebony aluminium, and white ceramic (an unusual finish in the home electrics space, and one that is fingerprint- and dirt-resistant). Toggle switch adaptors can be changed for custom colour combinations.
While Clipsal has built a reputation for high-quality home electrical products, the legacy company shifted the focus of this collection towards detail-oriented architects and designers. It partnered with an external designer, Jim Hannon-Tan, who has worked with brands such as Alessi, Tom Dixon and MUJI. Hannon-Tan brought a fresh design perspective while working to integrate Clipsal’s cutting-edge technology with the specific demands of the Australian A&D community, who were consulted during the design process. The Solis range is intended to be visually timeless, honouring the fact that the products will remain in use for decades to come once installed.
The new collection is compatible with Clipsal’s Wiser smart home system, a scalable automated smart home solution that is easy to install and set up. This gives homeowners the freedom to control their lighting and power using just one app. The Solis series can also be customised with dimmers, USB type-C fast chargers and smart power points.
The Clipsal Solis Collection raises the bar for home electrical design. It establishes a new benchmark for power points and electric switches that exhibit the same attention to detail as architects and designers pay to their projects, underpinned by the top-of-class technology on which Clipsal has built its reputation.
