Contrasting and Robust – Concrete House by GOLDEN
As a weaving of warmth and texture, Concrete House draws on the encasing feeling of a robust and protective family home. GOLDEN combines a considered and crafted approach in bringing together refined and masculine elements that are softened by textiles.
Located in Brighton East, Concrete House becomes the ideal home for its family, with a heightening of the everyday through bespoke detailing and a base of robust materials. Celebrating concrete as its main structural material, both the exterior and interior share a darkened tonal palette, with textural insertions such as timber and textiles. Imagined as a place of warmth and removal from the outside world, GOLDEN ensures natural light and an outward connection are consistently present.
Having previously worked together on other projects, an understanding of process and approach was already in place between the client and GOLDEN. In conceiving the home, the familiar themes of shelter and retreat were key, using concrete as its own featural focus – one that is celebrated for its nuances, imperfections and unwavering strength. Spread over multiple levels, the home’s grey base tone of concrete becomes the musing for the other insertions: black metal detailing combined with expressive and dark stones.
An emphasis on the raw nature of the materials forms the base of the overarching approach. Welcoming the use of polished plaster and intricately veined marble throughout further contrasts the softer elements. Radiating from the kitchen, the core and central living space is gestural in how it brings occupants together. Expressing a monolithic approach, the space brings functionality and form together, instilling an experience of reprieve away from the outer world.

Through a play on contrasts, Concrete House feels deliberately secluded from the outside world whilst encouraging the flooding of natural light. GOLDEN combines a heightened luxury to the core materiality of concrete, maximising its beauty whilst emphasising its resilience.
