Coogee Cove by Kate Lawrence Interiors
Showcasing Bianco Carrara marble from CAV’ART Designer Stone, Coogee Cove has a refined, textured, neutral palette that creates a timeless and serene environment for family living.
Located in the Sydney beachside suburb of Coogee, this family home by Kate Lawrence Interiors balances warmth and texture with a refined, modern coastal aesthetic. Designed for a couple with three young children, the home was envisioned as a calming yet tactile space, where natural materials and layered textures create both visual interest and a sense of grounding. With the family living overseas throughout the build, Lawrence was entrusted with the full design scope, from joinery and material decisions to collaborating with Jessi Eve from JEI Studio on furniture selection.
The layout maximises functionality while maintaining an open, airy feel. A few steps lead to the front door, where a study sits to the left and a second living room to the right. Further inside, the hallway opens to the kitchen, dining and living area, framed by a striking double-height void. Upstairs, there’s a master suite with walk-in robe and ensuite, two children’s bedrooms with a shared bathroom, and another child’s bedroom with its own ensuite. “Every bedroom has access to a bathroom, and the study and media room downstairs could function as a fifth bedroom,” explains Lawrence.
The client’s vision was for a modern beachside home with a refined palette and plenty of texture – an elevated take on coastal style. Lawrence responded with a material selection that balances warm timber with cool CAV’ART Bianco Carrara marble. “The Carrara marble has a cool tone, with its white base and blue veining, so I offset that with warm timbers,” says Lawrence. “Some of the other tiles also had a cool undertone – Moroccan tiles with blue and green hues, for example. It was about creating a fusion of warm and cool elements. Carrara Marble is such a beautiful, timeless stone and it continues to be such a popular choice because it works so well with so many different styles.”
Sourced from Italy’s renowned Carrara region, Bianco Carrara features prominently throughout the home – in all the bathrooms, on the fireplace and TV unit in the living area, and in the kitchen, butler’s pantry and laundry. “The client loved coastal style but admired high-end designs with Carrara marble, so it was an easy choice,” says Lawrence. “Nathan from CAV’ART reassured us it was durable for the areas we planned to use it. I’ve worked with CAV’ART on multiple projects, and when you find a supplier with great service and high-quality products, you keep coming back.”
The home’s refined materiality extends to bespoke details such as rattan inlays in joinery and live brass tapware that will patina over time. Light timber flooring unifies the living spaces, complemented by matching cabinetry and shelving. “The design is minimalist and calming, but detailed craftsmanship adds depth and elevates the space.” The children’s bedrooms offer a playful contrast within the otherwise refined palette. “The wallpaper in the kids’ rooms was client-led. The selections were playful yet timeless – the boy’s room has stripes, and the girls’ rooms has heart patterns that will still work as they grow.”
For the homeowners, the completed project marks a return to Australia and a new chapter for their family. “She was pregnant when we started and, by the time they moved in, she’d had her third baby,” says Lawrence. “It was special to create a home for such a big moment in their lives.”
