Reinventing Modern Living – Costume by Magis
Magis has released its latest collection, Costume – a complete reinvention of the conventional sofa.
The Costume collection is where flexibility meets sustainability. In his first project for Magis, designer Stefan Diez has pushed to redefine and enhance the everyday requirements of modern-day living through his design. The collection is notably environmentally friendly, constructed to optimise its versatility without compromising on quality.
The Costume sofa offers countless configurations using only four elements – a left and right armrest, a basic seating module and an ottoman. Using distinct plastic connectors, all elements can be linked together for endless possibilities. The connectors are available in matching or contrasting colours to add a layer of intrigue to the sofa’s composition; the seating module is extendable and has detachable armrests, meaning it can also operate solely as a footstool. The interlocking interface allows Costume to suit any season or interior style.
The collection puts sustainability at the forefront, with the brand focusing on producing environmentally aware products, created with the intention of longevity and a sense of luxury, aiming to last numerous generations of use. With its transformable nature, the Costume series can be reconfigured depending on the specific space and function, making its considered form completely adaptable and changeable, depending on its owner.
The new Magis range is available now at the family-owned business, dedece. With showrooms in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth, dedece has been supplying carefully curated and high-end brands to the Australian design scene for over four decades. Costume is no exception. “Costume is the perfect expression of both form and function,” explains Tim Engelen, founder of dedece. “The state-of-the-art sofa system is pragmatic, transformable and beautiful, while being responsible in terms of the resources used.”
With an emphasis on innovation and premium materiality, the series is available in a range of durable and easily recyclable fabrics, developed by Denmark-based textile company Kvadrat. As responsible design has dictated every decision, the Costume collection is made from recycled and recyclable polyethylene produced from car and furniture industry waste. The sofa’s configuration uses less foam than traditional sofas in its manufacturing process, and it can also be easily disassembled for cleaning or replacement. Informed, sustainable design practices are championed to ensure the design can withstand continual use and remain resilient to last.
