CULT Welcomes GUBI Al Fresco - Issue 09 Feature - The Local Project
This winter, Cult Design welcomes the new GUBI Al Fresco collections. GUBI has broken down the lines between inside and out with a refreshing take on outdoor living through the addition of new collections from archival and contemporary designers, while also introducing outdoor versions of designs from its existing indoor portfolio.
For decades, the lines between indoor and outdoor living have been blurred by either bringing the outdoors in or the inside out. Now the two have merged entirely, creating liminal spaces neither indoors nor out. With the new Al Fresco collection by GUBI, the threshold between the two has been surpassed, offering an all-encompassing, contextual take on design for outdoor living. The Al Fresco range includes a series of new collections from Pacha Outdoor, Tropique Collection and Bohemian 72, alongside the Atmosfera Tables, Gascoin Outdoor, Obello Portable Lamp and the TS Outdoor Table.
With Pacha Outdoor, Pierre Paulin’s iconic seating is brought into the open air, offering class and enchantment to the experience of spending time outdoors. Fine curved edges and the perfected proportions of the Pacha Lounge bring a classical sophistication for a more relaxing and comforting outside arrangement. The Pacha Chair offers a shape that moulds around the body, which can be converted into a sofa or, with added armrests, can act as a singular piece. With the cloud-like cushioning and stitching lines that incline inwards offering cosiness and comfort, the Pacha Chair perfects outdoor seating.
Bohemian 72 seamlessly weaves indoor and outdoor living together, combining natural materials alongside Gabriella Crespi’s fascination with stacked sculptural forms and the curiosity of uniting Eastern cultures and philosophies honed over years of travel. The Bohemian 72 collection compromises of a rattan-based lounge chair and three-seater sofa, ottoman and floor lamp, all of which encapsulate the idea of fine indoor-outdoor living and embrace both nature and home.
First created in 1950 by Hungarian-born French master of post-war design, Mathieu Matégot, GUBI has now released the Tropique Collection. Exuding timeless glamour and exotic outdoor living, each piece appears as if it has come directly from midcentury Côte d’Azur. The collection consists of two dining chairs framed in stainless steel and a matching dining table, each piece combining the essence of simplicity and decadence, turning it into a well-balanced collection of strength, durability and style. The GUBI Al Fresco collections are arriving at Cult Design in winter 2022, with the current GUBI portfolio now available in Australia, New Zealand and Singapore in Cult showrooms and online.
