A Lofted Enlivening – Dream Weaver by YSG
As a complete reimagining, Dream Weaver sees the outward expression of its owners, combining a saturation of colour and layers of textured tactility. YSG aligns with experimental and open-minded clients to bring rich animation to the lofted home, dotted throughout with curious and considered moments.
Enviably located in Darlinghurst, the newly acquired penthouse space was completely gutted to create a blank canvas for its new owners. Having previously become empty-nesters, the new home was intended to mark a shift into a new chapter and a focus on individual expression. Sitting at the top of other adjoining residences, the existing views out towards the harbour needed to be maintained as a core driver of the brief, seeing both inside and outside bring together an assortment of newly carved spaces reflecting the owners. A layered approach is applied throughout, with textural diversity interwoven with newly inserted elements and custom joinery. YSG brings an inimitable style of contrast and the unexpected to create another unique residential setting, imagined solely for its occupants.
Although the architectural shell that the home sits within is regulated and linear, the expression internally balances that rigidity with an eclectic sensibility, tying the spaces together.
With landscape design by Dangar Barin Smith, the open outdoor terraces of the penthouse become a natural extension of the home, feeling like a calming living border. In buffering the edges of the built element, the internal curation is further explored through softness and plushness. Having appreciated the need for their home as a haven, the owners wanted to seize the opportunity to transform the space into something they could easily retreat within. Although the architectural shell that the home sits within is regulated and linear, the expression internally balances that rigidity with an eclectic sensibility, tying the spaces together.
Intended for socialising, the kitchen and living space became a key focus of the residence. Inspired by Spanish tapas bars and the integration of tiled surfaces, the finishes and palette see contrasting elements convene whilst handmade tiles laid in a solitary colour add their own sense of movement. From the freestanding geometric supporting legs of the kitchen island to the innovative use of pattern and colour, there is an undeniable energy to the home. Varying in intensity, bathrooms and sleeping areas are toned down as places of rest and recharge whilst the more open and active areas champion a saturated palette.
