ducksnest. Curates Echoes in Wood
High-end Australian furniture curator ducksnest. has created the Echoes in Wood series, which highlights the handcrafted, sustainable timber furniture of European maker Artisan.
Established in 2009 by interior designer Susan Pehar, ducksnest. stands at the intersection of interior design and high-end furniture curation, showcasing thoughtfully selected, timeless European furniture for commercial and residential projects. It has carved a distinct identity as Australia’s foremost importer and distributor of Artisan, an award-winning maker specialising in exquisitely handcrafted timber furniture.
Pehar’s relationship with the Bosnia and Herzegovina-based manufacturer had serendipitous beginnings in her ancestral homeland of Croatia. “I still remember the moment I stumbled upon Artisan at a design fair in Dubrovnik – I was immediately captivated,” she recalls. “The stunning furniture pieces drew me in with their perfect blend of timeless style, innovative craftsmanship and generous use of wood.
“I was especially taken by the organic curves and moulded features that seemed to come alive in the beautifully crafted chairs and tables. What resonated with me most, though, was the brand’s passion for sustainable design and commitment to generational quality – values that align perfectly with my vision for ducksnest.”
Most recently, ducksnest. has curated a collection of Artisan pieces which it has dubbed Echoes in Wood. This celebration of craftsmanship and the enduring beauty of solid timber captures the intimate connection between material and maker. Pehar highlights the tactile and visual appeal of signature pieces like the award-winning Neva chair, which features an arched backrest that merges with armrests and front legs in one uninterrupted line. The Pasha table, with its distinctive leg design, offers customisation through natural finishes including European oak, walnut, maple, elm or cherry, while the Bloop coffee table elevates any space with its weightless appearance.
The Echoes in Wood series highlights Artisan’s rich textures and an earthy palette, and the company’s innate ability to harmonise heritage with innovation to create pieces that adapt effortlessly to both contemporary and classic interiors. The series also features the Soft Shelf and Wall Modules, functional storage solutions that double as elegant room dividers, the theatrical Artisan Wu chair, distinguished by its intricate joint detailing and gently curved legs, and the Neva Light bar stool, with its delicately crafted surfaces and sensuous, fluid form
Pehar says Artisan’s range complements the Australian lifestyle beautifully. “The pieces are versatile and functional, while also being elegant and refined,” she says. “The natural materials and neutral tones blend seamlessly with the Australian landscape and aesthetic.” Sustainability also forms the cornerstone of Artisan’s philosophy, with the team working exclusively with responsibly sourced wood.
