Natural Warmth – Fells Residence by We Are Triibe
Inspired by a love of Japanese and pared-back aesthetics, Fells Residence combines natural elements and an embedded and textural warmth. We Are Triibe worked closely with the owners, who co-founded fashion brand St. Agni, to propose a home of reflective earthed qualities, grounded in place.
Like any home, all the elements that comprise each of the spaces – the materiality, and the connection between the built and the natural – all combine to reflect the home’s owners and that which they value. As co-founders of St. Agni, Lara and Matt sought to collaborate with like-minded designers to see their home come to life. Nestled into the lush surrounds of Byron Bay, Fells Residence feels appropriate to its location, to the ethos of the area and to its occupants. Fittingly, principles are shared between the fashion brand and approach taken to imagining the new home. We Are Triibe draws on the natural surrounds in conjuring an aptly fitting and responsive home.
Built by Morada Built, with landscape design by Effie Cooke, Fells Residence sees the continuation of a working relationship between the brand and the interior designers. Having previously collaborated on the Fortitude Valley flagship store, an understanding of core principles was already in place and understood. As an extension of this, the home combines a similar warmth through the resulting palette and composes a series of connected and open spaces that flow into one another. Key to emphasising the natural connection was the allowance for natural light to flood the interiors and through adding light tones and inserting large openings, the spaces feel increasingly voluminous.
As a reworking of an existing home, the outer extents remain in place, and through a full stripping of the interiors, the home is rebuilt from within. Some areas are extended and opened further, like the master suite that further allowed for the inclusion of a skylight above, bringing additional light inward. Binding each of the spaces is the consistent flooring used throughout, which runs from room to room and connects the spaces with a similar tonal warmth. Combined also with Japanese mosaic tiles and brushed tapware, there is a quietness at play in how each of the spaces come together. Introducing doors that ran the full height of the space was also key, eliminating distracting linework throughout.
Fells Residence combines an organic and warming nature, where We Are Triibe has crafted a calm and restive home for its growing family to enjoy.
