Inspired Creations – Fletcher Design

With an ever-evolving catalogue that transcends the flippancy of fads and trends, Fletcher Design is a time-honoured commercial furniture company renowned for creating unique sculptural forms that are both highly functional and timelessly elegant.

Self-taught, Fletcher Vaughan honed his distinctive design style through astute observation and creative investigation, with early international successes forming the foundations for Fletcher Design, which he founded in 1999. Aside from designing furniture, Fletcher is also a sculptor, creating large- and medium-scale pieces that appear on several sculpture trails and in private collections around New Zealand. While these passion projects are completed in Fletcher’s – albeit very limited – spare time, there is crossover to the sculptural quality of the furniture Fletcher Design offers.

A new addition to the catalogue, the Rye Chair is a quintessential example of this sculptural style. With an aesthetic that is at once retro and futuristic, the curved backrest folds around the circular form of the softly upholstered seat, which is set on a sleek powder-coated swivel base.

This unique piece of soft furnishing joins the Monaco desk, which was originally created especially for the Fletcher Design offices. After fielding many queries from visitors wanting to purchase it, the desk moved from being an exclusive piece to becoming part of the new catalogue. It is appreciated for its clean lines and tactile work surface created using inset linoleum and gently hand-finished solid ash timber.

Another addition, the flexible and functional Myst Luxe is a re-release of a popular 2018 design, with added tactility and luxury. Side bolsters create more comfort, and additional design options allow for bespoke detailing for this timeless sofa that features elegantly rounded edging and comes in a range of leather finishes. Designed for waiting areas, front of house and lush meeting rooms, the Myst comes in three sofa sizes as well as an armchair.

After over 20 years in the industry, Fletcher is well respected in his field and leads the majority of the designs in the catalogue, but also collaborates with several esteemed creatives, including multi-disciplinary designer and Allbirds VP of Design Futures Jamie McLellan, internationally-celebrated design powerhouse Lance McGregor and up-and-coming Auckland-based design star Jeremy Evison.

After over 20 years in the industry, Fletcher is well respected in his field and leads the majority of the designs in the catalogue, but also collaborates with several esteemed creatives, including multi-disciplinary designer and Allbirds VP of Design Futures Jamie McLellan, internationally-celebrated design powerhouse Lance McGregor and up-and-coming Auckland-based design star Jeremy Evison. Despite international successes and a dedicated global outlook, Fletcher Design remains a proud local business, with all pieces created by New Zealand designers and manufactured just 12 minutes from its central Auckland studio.
