Energetic Base – Harbour Lights by Dennis Rabinowitz and Levine Vokaberg
With expansive views in the distance, Harbour Lights is the perfect home for entertaining and exudes a spirited vibrancy, filled with playful colours and accents, which creates a welcoming and eclectic foundation for the owners. Levine Vokaberg completes the final stages of the penthouse – originally designed by Dennis Rabinowitz – by adding layers and curating animated pieces within.
Throughout the interior, a considered balance between open and closed areas and neutral and colourful elements seamlessly ties the dwelling together. Wanting to introduce more personality into the home, the owners requested that Harbour Lights be given its own, clear identity. By introducing pieces that range in scale throughout, there is a rich diversity and sense of character established within. The interior volumes also needed to be able to easily accommodate guests and allow the occupants to feel comfortable and relaxed inside. Originally designed by Dennis Rabinowitz, the story of Harbour Lights is completed by Levine Vokaberg who highlights contrasting moments within as well as the personal expressions of the owners.
Responding to the various ways in which the interior spaces could be used, both architect and designer integrate a base palette that feels muted and calm. Imbued with Scandinavian design principles and flooded with natural light, each area feels open and connected. Classified as a sub-penthouse, the positioning of the home sees it sit atop several others yet, unlike a traditional penthouse that would occupy an entire floor, Harbour Lights shares its level with other neighbouring abodes. This collective arrangement, however, does not diminish the generous spaces within.
Memorable moments have been created throughout the home via contrasting colours and accents, integrating a sense of fun and playfulness. By combining select colours, this also leaves a notable impact on the base neutral tones. The dwelling is also uniquely grounded in place, thanks to expansive vistas that provide clear sightlines of the water. Internally, a sense of retreat is created through the careful composition of spaces, which allows one to feel disconnected from the outside world. This sees the more open spaces be reserved for gathering and socialising.
With each corner of the residence telling its own story and capturing the personalities of the owners, Harbour Lights is a celebration of life’s contrasting moments. Both Dennis Rabinowitz and Levine Vokaberg expertly ensure the resulting home allows its occupants to easily connect and disconnect, as needed.
