Embracing its location and identity within one of Melbourne’s most envied residential postcodes, Heyington Place by Carr combines refinement and elevated restraint in its approach.

Over four balanced levels, Heyington Place references its heritage-rich neighbours and streetscape, while bringing a refined and considered modern contemporary to its locale. Set in Melbourne’s inner south-east, the small-scale and expertly executed development is nestled into the leafy suburb of Toorak. Employing an approach that has been well-honed over the years of delivered beautifully crafted high-end boutique residential dwellings, Carr brings the same rigor and refinement to the series of twelve residences.

In amongst the more formal continuum of the masonry façade, insertions of floor to ceiling glazing offer seamless transitionary thresholds between the inside and out.

With landscape design by Acre Studio, the Sterling Global development sees each residence with dual or triple aspects. Vital to the integration into such an established milieu is the soft and natural landscape architecture, blurring edges between hard and soft elements and creating a tiered transition between the two.

Sitting cantilevered out on levels one and two, the overall approach to form is to create pockets of privacy, while still ensuring each comprising elements fits as part of the engulfing whole. As private courtyards sit tucked behind the ordered outer shell, pockets of crafted greenery emerge. At ground level, residents are able to add a pool if desired, while all sitting beneath a canopy of established trees.

Internally, the use of timber and natural stone is use in abundance, again in vast quantities to continue the boldness to approach and minimising the fuss of a complex and interchanging material palette.

Through a deliberate minimising of decoration, more monolithic and bold statements are applied. Carr brings a sophistication through the sweeping use of limestone externally, creating deeply set column bays and extended window elements. Key to the planning of these residences is the sense of home ingrained in each. Bringing in levels of warmth and comfort found in the more traditional footprint, Heyington Place conveys a deliberate consideration. Carr has created a series of calm spaces that both welcome and envelope. Through a refined and measured approach, the architecture’s honest materiality and long lines are accentuated, framing the lush views beyond.
