Through a layered and staged approach, House Fin is the coming together of a neutral tonality and an enduring palette that captures its past, present and future. CJH Studio emphasise restraint and refinement to conjure the resulting home of lasting resonance, and as a place of retreat and recharge.

Spread over two levels, House Fin reinstates a new sense and purpose to an existing family home, brought into fruition over a series of staged interventions to suit the nuances of its owners. Home to a young and growing family, the proposal sees both a renovation and expansion of the existing, infusing a sense of refined simplicity and intent to the revised plan. An allowance for adaptation over time was also integrated, allowing for the inevitable, while a naturally lit home of effortless connection then emerges through an inherent openness. Both in its access to the surrounding gardens and between the zones internally, the resulting home clarifies the way in which the home is used. CJH Studio bring a harmonious sensibility and create a series of serene retreat spaces in the process.

An emphasis on craft sees elevated fixture and fitting details ensure the tactile engagement between human and human-made are felt through a sensory engagement.

Built by KABSAV, together with landscaping by Lisa Ellis, House Fin is the reimagining of the entire site, with careful consideration to aspects that connect the interior with the exterior. With any family home, the garden and landscape are such prized and integral elements of the functioning of everyday rituals, and ensuring the softened exterior responds to the internal was imperative. Throughout the existing, a new plan brings a cohesion internally, seeing larger rooms created as well as a dedicated study area and a generous master suite and accompanying Ensuite. The newly injected generosity alters the internal feel and brings a balance and hierarchy to the experience of the home.

While a muted base is used throughout, iconic furniture, artwork and lighting bring personality and define the personality of the resulting spaces. Calm through its shared and restrained palette, timber adds warmth and grounds the home in place, while the integrated bench and open wood burning fire bring the primal cues of home and shelter into the home. An emphasis on craft sees elevated fixture and fitting details ensure the tactile engagement between human and human-made are felt through a sensory engagement.

Shifting from soft greys to creams and whites, House Fin is a home of flowing purpose, seeing CJH Studio carve a home of quiet still, while still being softly animated in its own restrained way.
