Set in Sydney’s Upper North Shore, Wahroonga House embodies the essence of midcentury modernist design, combining a distinctive Palm Springs style with a playful yet sophisticated atmosphere. Inspired by the architecture and its relationship to the surrounding landscape, IN BED chose the home to showcase its new season arrivals, with bold, bright colours and new patterns that capture the essence of the warmer months resonating with the easy indoor-outdoor lifestyle embodied by Wahroonga House.

Drawn to the design pedigree and thoughtful renovation of the house, it was also the airy and spacious feel that caught the IN BED team’s attention. “For us, it was Wahroonga House’s sense of light and openness that we found most compelling. It was easy to imagine our products in this space, and we knew the variation in both materiality and colour would work well back with the collection. Ultimately, we are always drawn to spaces that feel warm and welcoming,” explains Pip Vassett, Founder of IN BED.

Taking up residence in the house, IN BED’s luxurious heavy linen bedding, 100 per cent organic cotton towels, tea towels and alpaca throws are immediately at home.

Taking up residence in the house, IN BED’s luxurious heavy linen bedding, 100 per cent organic cotton towels, tea towels and alpaca throws are immediately at home. Featuring the limited-edition colours of Peach, Oxblood, Lilac, Cobalt and Pine, the palette of the seasonal collection works beautifully with the interior of Wahroonga House’s layered, textural scheme influenced by the surrounding bushland. A blend of warm golden-brown tones and deep forest green cabinetry harmonise with the native flora and fauna of the site, seamlessly integrating the home with its environment. “The seasonal collection’s vibrant colourways worked back perfectly amongst Wahroonga House’s palette of earthy tones,” Pip reflects.

The seamless transition from outside to indoors creates a relaxed atmosphere, which further complements the collection’s vision of lazy summer days. The kitchen, living and dining areas serve as the heart of the home, featuring white-painted timber-lined ceilings and triangular structural beams that reflect the bold, sleek lines of modernist design. The sleek curves in the joinery pay homage to the minimalist and playful geometric style of modernist design, while the organic materiality adds a touch of earthiness. Terracotta flooring in the main living areas extends out into the private spaces, creating a consistent and harmonious experience throughout.

Homeowner Liana Shaw-Taylor — founder of conscious homewares brand Studio Tuttiplayed an important part in the restoration of her home, working closely with Tom Mark Henry to capture the essence of midcentury modern design. With an inherent emphasis on sustainability, Liana drew inspiration from the surrounding bushland in crafting her home, using key pieces from Studio Tutti to inject a timeless yet contemporary sensibility. Simultaneously capturing both the lively spirit of Palm Springs and the calming atmosphere of the natural environment, Wahroonga House is a unique home that connects to its inhabitants through an expression of character.

As the IN BED collection’s vibrant colourways combine with the home’s palette of earthy tones, a sense of both the architectural period and a contemporary resonance emerges. Evoking the ease and joy of long, warm days, the IN BED seasonal collection in Wahroonga House is an invitation to relax and recharge.
